Every martial artist eventually hits a plateau. You’ve mastered the basics, but you feel stuck. You’re not winning as many rolls as you used to, or your strikes feel repetitive. This is not a sign to stop—it is a sign that you are ready for the next level of growth.
Plateaus usually happen because your body has adapted to your current routine. To break through, you must introduce new variables. This might mean training with partners who are significantly more experienced, focusing on your weaknesses rather than your strengths, or studying the conceptual “why” behind a technique rather than just the “how.”
At Arashi-Do Sylvan Lake, we encourage students to embrace the plateau. It is the period where your subconscious is integrating the basics before a leap in skill occurs. The key is disciplined consistency. Keep showing up, keep asking questions, and keep testing your limits.
Growth isn’t linear; it’s a series of jumps. The plateau is simply the preparation for the next jump.
